Dancing Ladybugs in June
Hello, June Bugs!
Summer is only two steps away and we’re in the city. Construction season has begun, but nature’s resistance is seen in the pavement cracks and the earthy smell of its green ambition is everywhere. We are itching to wander. We wandered into High Park just as a storm touched down. As is par for the course, we were moving against people traffic - They were fleeing, we were up for adventure. Safety fourth! We made it out alive and saw some spectacular old growth trees and the elements at play.
We took a new route home that day and saw a house we adore. Who else but a theatrical owner would go off book to use geometry and a house number of this scale?
Numbers and geometry have inspired many artists to create: Jasper Johns’ many numbers paintings; the Bauhaus posters of the 1920s; Robert Indiana’s sculpture, Number 1. There are some great examples of artist using numbers on Pinterest.
The geometry of the ‘#2 House’ reminds us of the Mid-Century Modern graphic designs we worked on last year. We used colour and elements of the era’s vernacular to invent designs of our own. You can see the entire collection in our shop.
The flowers are in bloom and the bees are making honey. The summer is always abuzz with colourful activates that celebrate diversity, and love. Here’s where you’ll find us this month.
