Today, Tomorrow, and Always.

Welcome to a new year filled with new ideas, projects and adventures!

Before looking forward at the coming year, we look back at 2202 and celebrate our successes, achievements, and creations. Many of our design projects in the past year have been inspired by colours and graphic images from media history: the movies; their titles and dialogue, book covers, and (as always) music.

Often our designers employ elements from historical images and designs. We love creating a new twist on an old look. With digital access readily available, we are fortunate to have such a treasure trove of content from which to create. Some of this comes from the public domain.

January 1 was Public Domain Day. Works from 1927 as seen above are open to all. If you look closely, you can see graphic inspiration from the past in the four collections added to the website last year.

While some wait for inspiration to find them, we’re ones to go get it. The month of January inspires to jump-start something new. We’re looking at to two fabulous artists who have birthdays in January: Barbara Hepworth and Sophie Taeuber-Arp.

Barbara Hepworth (January 10-May 20, 1975) and Sophie Taeuber-Arp (January 19, 1889-January 13, 1943) were two of the most influential figures in the development of modernist art in the 20th century. Both artists worked in a variety of media, including sculpture, painting, and design, and were known for their innovative and abstract styles. In addition to their contributions to modernist art, Hepworth and Taeuber-Arp were also associated with the Dada movement, which rejected traditional art forms and embraced chance and irrationality. They were known for their innovative use of materials and techniques in their work and were interested in exploring the potential of new artistic mediums, something our designers hold as a core value.

Looking at the year ahead and considering these two amazing artists, we are happy to share that we are expanding on our existing collections, and this Spring we are introducing something brand new. While we wait for the winter thaw, we are inspired by the warmth to come in the days ahead.

Valentine’s Day warms the heart and always inspires us to regard love in its many expressions: the loving heart, the sweetheart, the broken heart. Through history the heart has belonged to many; the poet, the artist, and the musicians. It has been associated with many, from queens and kings to the beggar. In all cases, there is a fire beneath.

With the warmth comes Spring! Hope Springs eternal so we’re adding a new Spring-themed collection. Get ready for flora and greenery in mauves, yellows and pinks. Watch for mushrooms and trees leaping through this collection. Stay tuned.

Until then, stay warm, stay safe and keep dreaming.

Reflectively yours,
Courage Drifter
